The whole village came out. Children ran ahead of the drilling truck on the last morning, and the elders sat in the shade of the one big acacia to watch.
At 11 o’clock Joseph Ekai, the new water committee chair, pushed the handle down for the first time. Nothing. Then a cough of air, and then water, clear and cold.
What changes now
- A two-hour walk becomes a ten-minute one
- Girls are back in class in the mornings
- The clinic expects fewer cases of diarrhoea within months
We were trained to fix it ourselves. This pump belongs to Kalapata. — Joseph Ekai
Thank you to every supporter who gave to the Turkana appeal. Nineteen more pumps to go.
